The Buzz about Checking in

Ahh Geo-Location services.

This week's Google Buzz release has Gmail subscribers in a tizzle about what the hell happened to their Gmail accounts.

But it's been a while coming. Ever since Google released latitude....I've quit dreamin of the day where i could stalk the living hell out my girlfriend....and have actually started doing it.

I'm kidding - but that's only because I don't have a girlfriend....jk

But all this got me thinking about check-ins and geo-location services.

Apps like Buzz and Foursquare should really NOT have ppl checking in at their homes.

I mean, do I really want to accidentally know where you live, and that you're the mayor of your apartment building? Maybe you'd care that the 5,000 other people on foursquare or Buzz around you now know where you live? Oh yeah, and now that they're following you, they also know when you're not home...genius.

I was goin about my business this AM, scoping out the Buzz Map around my house, and I found out my neighbor's working in digital media. Whadya know. Creepy/Weird.

Also - who the hell checks in at Costco?

Mayor of costco = mayor of wasting 3g bandwidth.

So guys - take it easy on the checking in.

Nobody wants to know you got your lacoste shirt at winners.
